In fact, if it were the other way around and distributed programs were not sandboxed, I would consider that a big design bug for obvious security reasons.

The fact that you lack imagination, or that DAOs might be hyped or their ideal use entirely misunderstood, is also not a criticism of the design of Ethereum. I appreciate your criticism for two reasons: One is that the questions you raise are important when it comes to designing distributed applications and considering which ones are even useful (although I prefer the visionary tone of e.g. Mike Hearn in his "All taxis will be autonomous." talk), and the other is that if this is what the criticism of Ethereum amounts to, I have much hope for it.

What I hear you say, which is really a concern I had not thought of, is that Ethereum is overly developer-centric. Vitalik totally had me - I believe from having seen a few talks on YouTube that he gets it at a philosophical level. He is not the "let's monetize, productize, sellize this" kind of person that I, personally, am allergic and distrusting of. But yes, Ethereum surely will not catch on if it isn't sold to non-developers also. I am not the one to judge on PR strategies, but I trust you on that. This is an organizational concern, though, not a design / crypto / privacy / security problem of which so many cryptocurrencies fall short on.

To Ashlie re. independent community: I would not worry at all. Bitcoin, it seems, is in a state where it needs product development. Ethereum is at a much earlier stage and probably attracts a slightly different kind of researchy developer. And since their uses are quite different (Ethereum being, as I understand it, a general-purpose blockchain for specialized purposes and for experimenting on what is possible, and Bitcoin being a thriving economy, and with every possibility for side-channeling as you say.)

Positive energy from here.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6364422533827776870.post-75860398045140306572014-04-19T06:07:18.361-07:002014-04-19T06:07:18.361-07:00As much as I realize you guys have poured blood, s...As much as I realize you guys have poured blood, sweat, and tears into Ethereum, I think there may come a day when you will, for the good of Bitcoin, need to become the two-way peg sidechain that offers DAC, etc for Bitcoin. Instead of an independent community with independent currency and an independent blockchain. In the end, we all want Bitcoin to succeed. Supposedly. If that truly is the end goal, then a tool which allows for Ethereum to integrate directly with Bitcoin should be pursued, instead of an independent community .... which ... honestly only existed in the first place because of a lack of a proper option. Now one is coming. Lets do the right thing.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15150407594790865323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6364422533827776870.post-33885128033994731072014-04-18T11:47:29.415-07:002014-04-18T11:47:29.415-07:00I haven't had the time to look into Bitshares ...I haven't had the time to look into Bitshares yet.
